Shelby County is celebrating its 194 years of existence with a celebration on Sunday, Feb. 5 in Columbiana. As part of the celebration, Robert G. Thrower, Jr., the Cultural Director for the Poarch Band of Creek Indians will give cultural demonstrations of the Creek Indians from around 1:15 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. The county's 194th birthday celebration program will begin at 2 p.m.
The Shelby County Museum and Archives will host the celebration. It is located at 1854 Old Courthouse, Columbiana.
The following people are expected to attend the celebration: U.S. Congressman Spenser Bachus, Shelby County Judge of Probate Jim Fuhrmeister, Dr. Edwin Bridges with the Alabama Department of Archives & History, Lee Sentell with the Alabama Tourism [Director], Miss Shelby County 2012 Sydnii Todd, Miss Shelby County Outstanding Teen 2012 Mary Ann McDougal, Many Shelby County Commissioners and Shelby County Mayors.
