SHELBY COUNTY, AL (WBRC)- A two vehicle accident near Alabaster has taken the life of a Montevallo man.

State troopers said the accident happened around 2:40 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19 on County Road 17, two and a half miles north of Montevallo.

Troopers say Richard Eugene Allen, 55, was driving a 1999 Saturn when he crossed the center line and collided head-on with a 2013 Chevy Tahoe driven by an Alabaster man.

Allen was pronounced dead on the scene. His passenger, a Montevallo woman, was taken by helicopter to UAB Hospital. Her condition is not known at this time.
