Helena Police Update
This is from the Helena, AL Police Facebook Page page:
·
"On Wednesday, 2/28/13 at approximately 3:40 pm, Helena Police received a call in reference to a possible attempted abduction of a child on Hollow Lane in the Plantation South subdivision. Officers and Detectives immediately responded and initiated an investigation that lasted well into the night. After this thorough investigation, it was determined that no attempted abduction took place and we have no reason to believe there are any suspects in the area attempting to abduct children. Officers are going to maintain a visible presence in all neighborhoods as a part of our usual patrols to prevent this type of incident. We encourage residents to call immediately if any suspicious vehicles are seen anywhere around children or acting suspiciously in any neighborhoods. We work hard to protect our children, both at school at at home, and its with the help of our residents that we keep our city safe for our them and everyone".

She said they need only need 21,505 more to get her school's goal of 75,000 for the Year.

Disabilities Advocates
Gwen Brown wrote in to say that they have a home modification position open at their company if anybody looking for a job. They can go to www.drradvocates.org and it should be posted there. She goes on to say,
"Also, if you hear of any Helena resident in need of some home modification stuff such as a raised toilet, ramp, etc needed, please let me know. Right now, I am connected to an individual who works for the state who has the funds to get things in place. The challenging part is getting the volunteers to do the work that is needed. Sometimes, an individual may have a person in their church who will do the work. So, if at least the items can be provided for free and they have the person who can do the work, that is one great deal. Some things are majorly costly. Funds will eventually go quick.

I am trying to get volunteers in our county to be helpers. Our organization also had a grant provided with funds for home modifications. I don't know how much, but once again, if somebody has the hands to do the work, it is ADA compliant, and a few other details, then they may be able to get some assistance.
