Shelby Co. School employees honored as outstanding UM alumni | Schools

Several Shelby County School District employees were recently honored during the University of Montevallo College of Education Faculty, Staff, and Alumni Dinner. The Outstanding Alumni Awards are given to those who graduated from individual degree programs. They are selected by current faculty in consultation with the dean.
Those honored included:
- Kathy VanFleet, Psychometrist in Gifted Education - Instructional Leadership, Masters of Education, Outstanding Alum Award
- Susie Turner, first grade teacher at Valley Elementary - Elementary Education Outstanding Alumni Award
- Mary Howard, AP English teacher at Montevallo High School - Secondary Education Outstanding Alumni Award
- Kevin Snowden, Transportation Coordinator - Instructional Leadership, Education Specialist Outstanding Alum Award
- Crystal Lamar, AP English teacher at Thompson High School, Traditional Masters of Education, Outstanding Alum Award.
In addition, Rachea Simms, Principal at Meadow View Elementary was given the Lifetime Commitment to Teaching Award, which is given to an educator who has served students and schools for more than 20 years. It is selected by the college leadership team and the dean.
